Match Against a NH Yr Six Boys Selection

Girls,

Well done today, it was a good hit out ahead of the December tournament. Whilst you didn’t get up to win (and that wasn’t the priority today anyway), there were some real positives to come out of the game.

1. You restricted the boys to under 4 runs per over. The second twenty overs were particularly miserly which was encouraging as they were trying to increase the run rate at this point.
2. Fielding was solid with very few misfields.
3. You batted the entire 40 overs. Very pleased that you achieved this.
4. You applied yourselves well in batting, very few rash shots and you did not give your wickets away.
5. You were very positive in the field and encouraged each other brilliantly. Keep the encouragement up for the full 40 overs, it give the bowlers a big lift.

Areas for improvement;

1. Extras – I realise it was windy but 28 wides is too many in 40 overs. The boys hit 99 runs from the bat but you conceded an extra 51 runs in extras.
2. Feet movement – this takes time and practice but using your feet to get closer to the pitch of the ball will help you execute your shots. Sometimes you may need to take two steps down the wicket or step across to better position yourself for the shot.
3. Singles – there were quite a few singles you missed. No better way to put the fielding side under pressure.
4. When batting, look around the field in between each ball. This will help you better identify the gaps. There was many a good shot played today but played straight to the fielder.
5. Moving in with the bowler. You will have noticed the boys did this particularly well. Not just a step or two but 4-5 meters. You have more chance of changing direction or getting to a catch if you are on the move. Watch the Black Caps, the close in fielders are almost running when the ball is bowled. More urgency creates more pressure on the batters.

All in all, I was very pleased with the game today. I know several of you were worried about playing the boys but you were a good match for them. I ‘m just pleased there were no sibling dismissals Eryn and Lauren. Plenty of chirping from your brothers mind you.

Well done to Alice for her first match as captain. Alice, the first one is always the most difficult, it does get easier. Girls, you need to take ownership of your place in the field. Moving in and out depending on the batter, changing over for a left and right hand batting combination etc. The captain cannot do all the thinking on the field.

Thanks Christine for scoring today. I will be looking for scorers at tournament, a job to share amongst parents.

Thanks again Rupert for coaching the boys side today, I hope they all got something from the match, especially your NH Year six boys.

Girls, tournament details to follow this week.

I will be at the Long Bay College on Sunday at 9.00am if anyone wants to come and have a net session. Voluntary only as I know families are gearing up for Christmas.

That’s it for now.
